ESS's Video-Internet-Computer in Production Shipment at Legend Computer, The Largest PC OEM in China
Windows CE Based Internet Appliance Targeting China's Internet Appliance Market
FREMONT, Calif., March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- ESS Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ESST - news) today announced that Legend Computer Systems Limited (Legend) has begun production shipments of their Venus Computer for the emerging Internet Appliance market in China.
Legend has introduced two Venus Computers, the ``Stock Easy' computer for home investors, and ``Home Easy' computer for general households with a Super VCD entertainment function; both are based on ESS's VIC (Video Internet Computer) chip set with Microsoft Windows CE as the Operating System.
``Our pilot production units were met with great reception right before the Chinese New Year, and we are now ramping the production units,' stated Mr. Jing Hong, Legend's Vice General Manager of Computer Business Unit. ``We are pleased to partner with ESS and Microsoft to bring consumer friendly computers to address this rapidly growing Internet Appliance market.'
Legend with headquarters in Beijing, China, is the largest name brand PC manufacturer in China, with over US$2.1 billion in revenue and employs over 7,000 people throughout China. Legend has been growing consistently at an annual rate of 40% for the past 5 years, and according to IDC's latest market research on personal computers, Legend's PC market share has now grown to over 27% of the total Chinese market.
