Attention Business/Technology Editors:

Jaws Technologies introduces first comprehensive security solution designed specifically for the ASP market

Offering Online Data Backup and Recovery and Secure Network Storage,
JAWS ASPvault Addresses Key Concerns of ASPs and Customers

ORLANDO, FL, ISPCON/ASPCON/CLECexpo, May 24 /CNW/ - JAWS Technologies,
Inc. (NASDAQ:JAWZ), a leading provider of end-to-end information security
solutions, today introduced JAWS ASPvault, a service that significantly
reduces the risk of information loss or service disruption for application
service providers (ASPs) and their customers. The only service of its kind,
ASPvault provides ASPs and their customers with automated online data backup
and secure, third-party network storage.
"JAWS ASPvault addresses two of the most critical concerns of ASPs and
their customers or potential customers - data security and service
availability," said Robert Kubbernus, Chairman and CEO of JAWS Technologies.
"By providing secure, third-party storage of mission-critical data and online
data recovery in the event of an emergency, JAWS ASPvault adds value to any
ASP's product and service portfolio while offering important peace of mind to
any small or medium-sized enterprise using, or considering using, an ASP."

Important security for a rapidly growing industry
Virtually nonexistent only a few years ago, the ASP industry is
experiencing extraordinary growth. While a March 2000 report by International
Data Corporation estimated 1999 worldwide spending on ASP services at $296
million, some analysts believe that the ASP market could reach $132 billion by
2006. This rapid expansion has heightened the importance of key security
issues inherent in the ASP delivery model.
Each day ASPs deliver services to customers who exchange volumes of
mission-critical data. The sensitivity and magnitude of this information
exchange makes ASPs extremely vulnerable to disruptions caused by computer
viruses or other technical difficulties. Should these factors cause even a
temporary loss of data access for ASP customers, ASPs could face severe damage
to their reputations through an erosion of customer confidence or, possibly,
legal action.
JAWS ASPvault addresses these important concerns by providing a secure,
third-party data storage system that effectively serves as an insurance policy
for ASPs and their customers.

Two service options
JAWS ASPvault offers two service options to ASPs and their customers. It
can serve as a secure, third-party data backup, storage and recovery solution
for an ASP, or as an application leased to small and medium-sized enterprises
by an ASP.
When used as a security solution by an ASP, JAWS ASPvault adds value to
ASP service by offering customers automatic data backup and storage and online
data recovery when necessary. These capabilities, coupled with JAWS
Technologies' expertise and reputation as an information security leader, can
serve as valuable differentiators for an ASP and enhance the attractiveness of
the ASP delivery model to organizations with security concerns.

FEATURES/benefits of ASPvault
- Security of data thru encrypted storage
- Multiple platforms and file support
- Incremental file change - reducing time to backup
- User selected files backups: Server or Desktop, ad-hoc or scheduled
- Metered usage for ASP billing to client
- API for billing from metering functionality
- Contingency access plan to data for ASP clients in event of disaster
- Continued data availability from a global service provider in event of
disaster
- Alternative access vehicle to data for ASP clients for transition to
other ASPs/in-house usage (like an escrow account)

When leased by a customer through an ASP, JAWS ASPvault performs the same
security functions while providing direct control over data backup, storage
and recovery. It offers small and medium-sized enterprises the benefit they
receive by leasing other mission-critical applications through an ASP -
namely, the ability to leverage current, best-of-breed technology without
having to bear the costs and administrative responsibilities associated with
maintaining the technology internally.
Whether used by an ASP or leased by a customer through an ASP, JAWS
ASPvault allows users to establish different backup schedules for different
applications or types of data, if desired. In addition, both service options
utilize secure enterprise storage management software in a JAWS Technologies
mainframe data center, and both offer extensive online data recovery
capabilities. If necessary, users can recover up to five generations of stored
data, and can also choose to have stored data restored to its form on a
specified date - a capability that could become particularly important if an
ASP or organization needs to restore data to an earlier state in the event of
data corruption.
