Tell him to check around for a free diabetes monitoring kit. I got an "Accu-Chek" free online. Don't use it at the moment, but I can check my blood sugar if I want to now. The companies do it on the "razor/razorblade" marketing concept. They charge a lot for the strips.

If he searches out and follows the various diabetes groups online, all the info he needs for all types of treatment are discussed. Many of them are way ahead of what his Doctor may know. The job is to pick out the wheat from the chaff.
