Reagan was a lot smoother. Remember seeing him at the Beverly Wilshire in '68. Students protesting out front, he was inside, smiling like a baby. He had a glow when he worked the crowd. Closest I've seen to that is Clinton.


By 68, Reagan had had a lot more practice than Palin - and Palin was great working her crowds. It was the hostile and condescending press she couldn't handle. Sarah Palin said she couldn't believe it when Katie Couric asked her what she read, in tones that doubted that major magazines ever made it that far north - or that Palin was literate. Handling that sort of stuff is just practice.
