OT: Similar reading tastes. I liked Dune, but found the following books in the series less interesting. Watership Down--geez, I think I read that 30 years ago, still have it laying around somewhere, may be time to revisit it.
Ever read David Brin Uplift series? I think the first was
Startide Rising.
I admittedly read sci-fi for the scenarios of what might be or could be--I am more forgiving of the character development if
the story captures my imagination.
On that premise, I enjoyed Foundation series. You might want to look at the prequels and sequels to see if improved.
The Rama series by Arthur Clarke and Gentry Lee was good.
A Mote in God's Eye by Niven and Pournelle.
Ringworld seres by Larry Niven.
I'll be looking for Card's book too, thanks for the reco.
