Applix Reports Preliminary Second Quarter Results
Revenue Expected To Range From $10.4 To $10.7 Million
WESTBORO, Mass., Jul 9, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Applix, Inc., (NASDAQ: APLX chart, msgs) today announced estimated revenue and loss per share for the second quarter of 2001, which ended June 30. Second quarter revenues are expected to be between $10.4 million to $10.7 million, and a loss per share in the range of $0.21 to $0.24. Applix expects to close the quarter with approximately $9.0 to $9.5 million in cash. The Company will announce complete second quarter results after the market closes on Tuesday, July 24, 2001.

"Applix CRM and analytic solutions meet customers' immediate needs for highly flexible, easily upgradeable solutions that deliver rapid ROI at a very competitive total cost of ownership," noted Applix President and CEO Alan Goldsworthy. "Our new Rapid Results workshop program has proven to be successful in Europe and Asia, but has had a slower roll-out in North America. We have a higher win rate when we employ this program. We will immediately step up the delivery of Applix Rapid Results for North American prospects to increase our win rate and reduce the length of our sales cycle."

"We experienced longer than expected sales cycles in the second quarter. We will discuss the overall business climate further in our upcoming conference call," said Ed Terino, Applix Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. "In line with the trend towards a longer than planned sales cycle, we are taking immediate actions to manage cash disbursements to be in line with cash collections and are reviewing our cost structures for further efficiencies."

Final earnings analysis and more details will be provided on a quarterly earnings conference call on July 24th at 4:30 PM EST. The call will also be broadcast live on the Applix web site and through www.streetevents.com. Further information will be made available on www.applix.com.
