RE:I can't remember who, where or when, but somebody from Intel had stated that the hype over the sub-$1000. PC was overblown.

Unit sales of desktop systems priced below $1,000 nearly doubled, from 11 percent of sales in June 1996 to 21.1 percent in June 1997.
