Here is my understanding (hope its not redundant).

Why would a maker of something like a copier, fax machine, air bag etc... care about having a MSFT endorsement? Buyers don't care if it has Microsoft software embedded so why would manufacturers allow Microsoft in.

Items like cellular phones are more interesting. If you are Motorola or Nortel or Siemens, why give Microsoft a chance at dominating your industry? The phones that will sell in volume will not have full operating systems for a VERY long time, IMO. Now as Microsoft goes to real-time to attack the volume markets, things will get more interesting. Then you might have a fight in cell phones like there was/is in PC's. If you resist Microsoft and buyers eventually associate cell phones with Microsoft, maybe the adopters of Microsoft win and others are left flapping in the WIND. But its too early to tell anyway so... WIND's going higher.
