Obama congratulated himself again on funding embryonic stem cell research. For background, here is Obama's announcement of a few weeks ago

usnews.com

and for comparison, Bush's 2001 speech not funding it:

archives.cnn.com

The two make an interesting contrast. Bush's speech is more coherent, and more respectful of the views of his opponents. He never once insinuates that those who favor embryonic stem cell research are on the slippery slope to infanticide. He just judges the morality of the situation differently.

Obama also claims to respect his opponents' views. Yet in the next paragraph he sets up the decision as a contrast between science and ignorance, as if people who opposed the research favored ignorance. Then the in the following paragraph, he assures us that he will never fund human cloning. Why the heck not, if it's a choice between science and ignorance? Science finds cloning very interesting and potentially highly useful.

When you go back and read Obama's announcements, they are full of these logical non sequiturs.
