For some of my interests there is more of a conversation occurring elsewhere... SI not my only haunt...
For others, I may well be the only one bothering with actually following them, or the only one who seems aware they even exist. I do tend to focus on looking for value in concepts that others are missing, and for others who either recognize it when they see it, when others don't, or who are able to create it, given an ability to recognize and enable solutions others can't visualize. I'm not looking for conversation for its own sake. I often will recognize a kernel of value where others don't see it, see it well before they do, or recognize the element that's missing to enable others to recognize what I see. That doesn't mean every idea I find it is useful to watch as it evolves, or that every company with a good idea, in concept, will succeed. So, the NOK on that approach might be that "value" is often considered, in popular imagination, mostly as a function of others recognition of it... but, then, I'm usually not looking for values that others ALREADY recognize, rather than for value they don't, yet...
It works for me...
I'm patient... and often will not be as concerned with liquidity as others might be... Canadian mining stocks will often trade more actively in Toronto than will their US tickers...
And, also have been around long enough to have seen a few business cycles come and go, and to have thought of it, at the time, that "hyperlocal" and "mobile" concepts in ecommerce and advertising, being pitched by the VC crowd already in early 90's: Yeah, good idea... but, clearly too soon... ? Following it, if not always intently, for almost 20 years now ? I think we're finally reaching a threshold where the both the tech... and the people... are ready to make the potential opportunities begin to matter, for those who solve the market puzzles best.
Too many still focused on using the capability of the tech "for business," rather than "for people". I don't think it will work without opt in... and opt in won't occur without a re-balancing in values.
FWIW, found it way more useful to chat with the guys re AAPL back in the day when Jobs first returned, and was still looking for ideas to help pull it back from the brink... Far more interesting then, than it is now...
As far as telecom, in particular, I think some of those funny tickers that don't trade... might still prove to be vastly more relevant to the future of the industry, perhaps even hold the keys to how it will evolve, than some others might believe...
Appreciate the quick summary view of NOK issues...
