OH >> making it up as you go << No, my point was who knows and what difference does it make. Focus on the objective of the investment not the out of context steps that it takes to get there - particularly when you are dealing in a highly speculative, very high risk/reward operation and don't have all the facts. I suspect that many of the people who were in IPM should have been in IBM. Thank god Doyle is who and what he is or he would have taken his cash when the stock was $8 to $10 and bailed out. So he stays and fights and people take information out of context and insult him. Frankly, I don't think any of those people could come close to understanding what and why he does anything.
