UPS has proposed a split-trustee (half union, half UPS) plan that they say will provide higher benefits for less years of service for less cost. Where, I wonder, is the difference going now?

Yes, the union wants UPS to keep contributing money to a pension fund that includes other companies. Why is this so important to them? Power? As I understand it, UPS wants the pensions of its employees to be in a separate, UPS only fund.

I hope UPS fires every striking worker, and sets out on a nationwide recruitment effort. They have to take some bold steps here, or they will further alienate UPS from their customers. Some UPS customers are already vowing to ship regularly with other companies, to protect themselves from getting in this situation again.
