I'm looking at a potential hedge strategy a little differently. I'm betting my longs in industries I like, and don't want to place counter bets in the same industry. What you describe would be great if there were no margin requirements, but there are. If you still want to try it, I suggest looking at the remaining RBOCs. They started out as siblings but have gone separate ways. Might be some possibilities there.

I'm looking for shorts to hedge against the inevitable megacorrection. I'd like to find a few stocks that will trail the market on the way up, but would likely be punished at least as bad as the averages on the way down. Any candidates that fit that description?
