Thread:

Went to Asia this past May (right around the time Indonesia was falling apart). We stayed in Singapore as a base and traveled around up into Malaysia but never got over to Indonesia. The currency exchange rates are so US$ favorable that a full suite at the Ritz-Carlton is US$195 per night (w/ Club Level privileges). Everything in Malaysia is dirt cheap to buy at the moment, cab ride of 8 KM was 70 cents, restaurants very economical as well (Best restaurant in KL with bottle of early-mid 90's Chassagne-Montrachet was $84 w/ tip). But, that's not where I'm going with this.

Andrew McBride, the manager of the RC-KL, told me that the Ritz in Bali is an incredible steal right now. Regular rooms are less than $100 US and a full villa is less than $300 (might vary some due to currency fluctuations). The RC-Bali is a full scale resort property that just opened about a year ago and it's gorgeous.

So, if you've got a slew of frequent flyer miles and really want to get away to a beautiful location, check it out.

NOTE: The trick is to negotiate your rates in Indonesian Rupiah. Still the dollar rates are pretty good as well.
