Of course it can be translated. What you've been brainwashed to spout is just drivel invented by "tzaddiks" who want to ensure a constant flow of cash and students to their academies. Of course, while their mishpuchah are getting their heads blown off in Lebanon, they're sitting comfortably pondering the meaning of why this letter was used, and not that letter. I wish one of the "lofty spiritual lessons" conveyed was that you don't send your brother off to die while you claim an exemption and stipend that lets you live, peyot untouched, like a yellow coward. From which phrase can we derive that learning? Makes me sick.
