Hello MSB,
Just read through your merry adventure. Boy does that take me back! I ran the roads for 6-7 years in the 70's, mostly east of the Mississippi. Your friend Quik has a lot of imitators! He didn't seem too terrible, though. There are some guys out there who would do a lot worse.
I liked your description of Salt Lake City. I've never been there, but I hope to get there soon. Been through Grand Junction, I liked it there.
You're right about guardian angels watching out for the wayfarer. I got to some places with almost no money and always did alright. In Tallahassee, FL, I was walking to the bloodbank after coming in off the interstate, and this guy pulls up in a pickup truck and asks me if wanted to go to work. He had a farm and a landscaping service. I was about as down and out as I had ever gotten, and that gentleman really gave me a boost. I worked for him about 9-10 months then moved on. About 2 years later I worked for him again for about 3-4 months before moving on. We still stay in touch.
Had several adventures and misadventures out there, thanks for sharing your story and reminding me of my similar experiences. |
