More on SHL Systemhouse and COGIF:

Excerpt from: fm6.facility.pipex.com

Since its formation in 1974, SHL has grown to become one of the world's
ten largest systems integrators and information technology outsourcing
companies.

SHL was acquired by MCI Communications Corporation, a long-time client
and business partner of SHL, in November 1995 in a move fully supported
by the SHL Board and Management Team. MCI, whose head office is in
Washington DC, is one of the world's largest and fastest-growing
diversified communications companies. With annual revenue of more than
US$15billion, MCI offers consumers and business a broad portfolio of
services including global, long distance and wireless
telecommunications services, Internet software and access, information
services and business software.

SHL addresses the information technology needs of our clients through
three primary lines of business:

Systems Integration and Transformational Services
Technology Deployment and Education Services
Systems Operations and Outsourcing Services.

The SHL Systemhouse Approach to the Year 2000

SHL recognises that the Year 2000 change poses a significant challenge.
To help with this change, SHL has developed a comprehensive set of
solutions called TRANSFORM 2000. Our largely automated approach could
significantly reduce the assessment and conversion costs.

SHL brings three key qualifications to this Year 2000 project :
large-scale project management experience, industry leading conversion
tools and a commitment to develop solutions to the Year 2000 problem
for its clients.

SHL has established a Conversion 2000 Practice consisting of experts
trained in the SHL TRANSFORM 2000 methodology and experienced with
industry leading conversion tools. SHL is a major share holder in
Cogni-CASE, a leading software re-engineering company, and the
Cogni-CASE Year 2000 product set.

The SHL/Cogni-CASE teaming offers a combination of experienced staff
along with proven tools and methodology that have been successfully
used to complete over twenty (20) Year 2000 projects thereby reducing,
to a manageable leave, the risks associated with such a complex and
mission-critical project. The intelligent conversion tools developed by
Cogni-CASE will not only assist SHL and the Client in accurately
assessing the Year 2000 impact but will also provide the Client with the
automated inventory that will be used during the conversion project.

Our Methodology

Because of the short time usually available to produce the Year 2000
Impact Analysis, the SHL/Cogni-CASE approach will consist of a Project
Initiation phase to ensure that all parties, at all levels, have a clear
understanding of the project objectives and to secure the SHL,
Cogni-CASE and the Client's resources necessary to proceed with the
project. This phase will be followed by an Inventory Data Gathering
phase, to identify and collect all of the application information to be
assessed.

The Impact Analysis phase will incorporate automated tools to generate
a detailed Impact Analysis Report. For the application's portion where
tools cannot be used, manual research will be used to provide similar
information.

The results of the above activities will be a detailed inventory of the
application and an estimate of the Year 2000 conversion. A Year 2000
Conversion Plan can also be produced as part of this phase.

Year 2000 Date Conversion and Validation

SHL is able to provide the date conversion, based around the Cogni-2000
product toolset, of the following systems:

Mainframe-based systems (i.e. COBOL, ADS/ONLINE, IDEAL, SAS,
Focus and Easytrieve programs, copy books, databases, files, JCLs,
Utilities, screens, reports etc.)
Mid-range-based systems (i.e. COBOL, Focus etc)
PC-based systems (i.e. C/C++, dBase, Foxpro, Visual Basic etc.)

SHL can carry out a range of testing and validation work using the
results comparison method and supported by data comparison and
validation tools.
