BURLINGTON, ON, March 17 /CNW/ - AFTON FOOD GROUP LTD. is pleased to announce that Mr. Gordon Craig, Chairman and C.E.O. of NetStar Communications Inc., has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Company. Mr. Craig has had an extensive career in Broadcasting. He began his career with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 1955, and held progressively senior positions with the company including Executive Producer, TV Sports (1966-68), Deputy Head, and then Head of TV Sports (1968-76), Director of Television for the province of British Columbia (1976-81), and Director of Operations, English Services Division (1981-83). In 1983, Mr. Craig joined John Labatt Limited with a specific mandate to seek a licence for an all sports specialty network. He created and led a management team that successfully launched TSN in 1984 then RDS, a French language all sports network five years later and on January 1, 1995 the Discovery Channel. In 1995, Mr. Craig was instrumental in the establishment of a consortium, which acquired the broadcast business from John Labatt Limited. The NetStar corporate family includes, The Sports Network (TSN), Le RTsean des sports (RDS), Discovery Channel, NetStar Sales and Dome Productions. NetStar also holds significant interests in Viewer's Choice Canada, NTN Canada Inc. and St. Clair Group. NetStar is one of Canada's leading growth enterprises in the broadcasting industry. Mr. Craig is a Director of the Trilon Financial Corporation (a TSE listed company) and Canada's Sports Hall of Fame. He sits on the Board of Governors of the Banff Television Festival as well as the Governors Council of North York General Hospital and the Advisory Board for the Canadian Special Olympics. Afton presently operates more than 250 corporate and franchised restaurants in Canada, the United States and Saudi Arabia, under the brand names 241 Pizza(R), Ruffages(R), Donut Delite CafT and Mrs. Powell's Bakery Eatery(R).
