MHS is play on Enterprise-wide mgmt (u know other co's like SAP,etc)
since patient is tracked through different services they use eg. home care, acute care, etc

so, the various providers of care can see where the patient has been ie. what treatments received.

In the past, patient info in one system not available to other providers - had to be gathered a 2nd, 3rd, etc time
