On November 12 Computer Associates announced the creation of a new division dedicated exclusively to the growing Internert/intranet market that will be known as NetHaven. According to Venkat Subbarao, general manager of NetHaven, the new division will offer comprehensive Web development, deployment, content hosting, and management services, and deliver all the necessary hardware, applications, and connectivity tools.
The Gartner Group reported recently that there is a 30% chance that Computer Associates will soon become a top software vendor, a 60% chance that CA will make headway with some of the bigger IT customers by continuing to acquire companies to maintain momentum, and only a 10% chance that CA will be body-slammed by Microsoft and IBM.
Computer Associates' CEO, Charles Wang, was recently asked whether he planned any more acquisitions. His reply was "Oh, yes. We look for key technologies, key technical people, key distribution, and key customer bases. We will combine the acquired technologies with internal development and partnerships." |
