** Completely OT ** , re: giving credit card numbers out.
Was in Macy's registering for my upcoming wedding. Someone called in on the telephone and had a discussion about wedding gifts that had not arrived yet (Macy's sends brides a card with an estimated date of when the gift will be shipped.) Well, the Macy's person punched a bunch of buttons on the computer, and printed out a list of each gift, the person's name and address who had bought it, and the credit card number. They can get your name and address from your credit card #. Did you know that?
When registering at another store (Dillards), the lady told me that occasionally they have problems where someone buys a gift off of a registry but then decides not to give the gift, so the bride never gets the gift because it's marked off the registry. If someone pays in cash, there's nothing that can be done. But if it's paid for with a credit card, then the store can track down who bought the gift and see why the bride doesn't have it yet.
This scares me much more than credit card fraud. If someone uses my cc#, I can write the cc company and I'm only liable for a small fraction of the amount. With this other stuff, makes me want to rip up all my Credit Cards and pay in cash only... with internet credit cards it will get worse, because browsers give out information too...
