BP.. yes you do get an even better return on your capital by taking the shorter ARM and paying down the principal. The catch is IF you pay down the principal. Remember also, normally none of the money you put in over the monthly due is applicable towards future payments. If your monthly was 1000. and you decided to throw in a windfall 5000 towards the principal one month... next month you can't say, apply a thousand from the five. Also, they sometimes have early payment penalty clauses. Field those questions up front before applying.
