The newsgroup ba.internet has some interesting end-user and reseller experience: eg Message-ID: <030120010718029360%myron@znet.com>
We are a distributor for GoAmerican after UUnet backed out of their "wholesale" program. In order to be a "tier 1" partner you have to have the ability to install DS3 at 36 cities nationwide and promise to push 200,000 units a year. When you sell a unit, say WWCs, which is at Fryes, then you use the Ricochet network for the front end and use the backbone of the particular distributor, in this case WWC, for access to the public Internet. So the service is in three parts; 1- Ricochet for wireless, 2-the tier 1 artner's backbone, 3- the ISP package provided by the ISP (mail, web, dial up account, etc., quality of service).
You get the same unit and even use the same phone number with each.
We've partnered with GoAmerica for two markets: 1) the general consumer 2) Resellers below 5,000 units per year - we only require a purchase of 10.
We believe we offer the best package out there for $74.95 since it also includes a nationwide dial up account along with mail, web mail, and web space. (zNET's).
You will see a lot of "invisible" offerings but only a few will be at our level. Most will be resellers below our level.
