De Beers had there way in SA for 100 years by dealing with the good ole boys but the complexion of the government has changed and it is long over due. When you look at the speed at which things changed in Russia the break up of a diamond cartel pales in comparison. It is probably in everyone's best interest to keep it going and what is happening is S.A. is just putting DeBeers on notice that the old ways are a about to change and we want our fair share. It will be interesting to find out what the government says this parcel of diamonds are worth. It should give some clue where this is heading. If they say another 10% then Debeers will probably go along. If they say 50% more then it will hit the fan. Eddy
