I wouldn't get too outraged about it, LB. You've got to take in context--the US beat Mexico in the last World Cup, a loss that still reverberates in the Mexican psyche. This was the payback, especially since the Mexican team won despite being underdogs.

The previous rankling WC loss was like the Soviets losing to the US Olympic hockey team in 1980. A big, big deal. More gringo oppression--where will it all end?--kind of thing.

As a result, everything was fair game, including OBL.

It was in a sporting context, though. The average Mexican, even the average soccer fan, sympathizes hugely with the US for the losses suffered on 9/11. Just don't ask him to be fair when it comes to soccer, especially when it means knowcking the US out of the next WC.
