Chris, this is one of those times that I will have to disagree with you. It seems you are developing opinions without thinking through all the facts. Consider the following:

1. PacBell (arguably the largest baby bell) has publicly stated long ago that it has chosen HFC as the replacement of their cable plant to support the new technologies/services of the future. However, they have realized that after deploying HFC in San Diego and somewhere in the SF Bay area, it will take them many years and Millions (if not Billions) of dollars to completely replace the current copper(gold). And so they are:

2. Aggressively pursuing alternative methods of delivering high bandwidth to the consumer via xDSL for the interim (1997-2015 minimum).

Your post is full of misconceptions, further showing that you either have an agenda against xDSL, (I don't personally believe that you do) or that you are woefully ignorant of the core technologies that are at play in telecommunications (as someone has mentioned before and is what I believe is one of your major shortcomings). You may wish not to educate yourself to the technical workings of the competing technologies, but you better get yourself someone that can translate for you.
