The point is that ANWAR drilling is a short term solution to a long term problem. If they open up ANWAR to drilling (which I am for, btw) it makes no difference in the long run. So maybe we find some oil that gives us 5 years worth of new oil. That will barely dent the price of oil, much less make us oil independent. Who cares? That would still leave us with a long term dependency that is still bad for our economy, national security, and the environment.

As far as the tax credits for hybrids, that is already running out. Those are a good starts, but they don't go nearly far enough. We are spending $150 billion a year in Iraq. If we spent that kind of money on tax credits for consumer and manufacturers and research, we'd already be 3 years into a 15 year plan. But that solution is too reasonable for this President, who clearly wants to do things the hard way.

I guarantee you we could marginalize the Islamo-fascists more quickly by taking away their money, rather than fighting them in Iraq, and believe me I have no qualms about our military killing as many as they can find in the Middle East. But I'm all for using our intelligence to maximize our effect, rather than using the bull in the China shop approach that Bush uses.
