I am not sure about Sheridan since he is a VP, but if Ledbetter is Novell's CTO (in spirit if not name), I would think he would continue to report to Eric directly. Also, the CTO and Eric would likely be strong co-evangelists if that is what Eric wants to focus on, so keeping them close makes sense.

Also, far be it for me to provide Senior Executive Management advise, but I counted around 18 VPs, Senior VPs, or CxOs within a company the size of Novell. I would think there would be room for some convergence / trimming of some of these heads/positions. Specially when 4 of the titles have "Marketing" in its name and a couple others skirt the Marketing function. Why not have Steve Adams simply be THE Marketing Senior VP and have all marketing roles become Directors of their specific marketing function and report to him directly.

Am I off base in thinking that Novell could do with a few less bodies at the top? Maybe its just a name game and the structure is all OK.

Just a thought.
