mr. mark, need to upgrade: Windows had an update for the program which advises you of Windows update availability. I installed it today, but disabled it after finding it checks for updates every 5 minutes. No upgrade is that urgent. Another thing I disliked is that the new update advisor can update itself automatically.

Download this component and never miss a Critical Update again. Whenever a new Critical Fix is released, you will be notified. Microsoft has improved Windows Critical Update Notification by adding a feature which allows this component to update itself as improvements and new features become available.

PS: for many months MS Windows update suggested a modem driver update for me that was older then the driver I had. I don't use the modem now, but we should all compare version numbers before accepting any upgrade recommendation. Mr. mark knows this, but some lurkers may not. :)
