For me, events often don't seem real until I write about them.
I presume you mean events that have actually "happened" to you, not to someone else, real or invented. If so, good thing that's not true for me!
I generally don't like writing about events that happened to me. On the other hand, now that I think about it, I have a very bad memory for things that happened to me -- perhaps because I don't set them down?? People are always asking me, incredulously, "Don't you remember when we..?" No, I don't. Complete, absolute blank. Most of the things I do remember, in great detail, are the unpleasant things, which is one reason I don't like to write about things that happened to me...:-(
Thus, I prefer to write about what happened to other people. That is why I chose to be a historian, I guess. I want to preserve their memory. As if they weren't real unless I write about them? Hmmmm....That's an idea....
