And I was knocking down your argument by demolishing the premise ("even if").

"Even if" doesn't rely on the the following statement being really possible. It can be a "counter-factual". For example "even if the moon was made of green cheese, it still wouldn't help solve hunger in Africa, because it would be so hard to transport much of it back to earth, and besides people would get tired of a diet of green cheese all of the time".

In any case you haven't demolished my "even if", even if you don't consider the possibility of counterfactuals. A more accurate statement would be "I was attempting to knock down your argument..."
