I'm suffering the same problem you are- I write as I'm thinking and I type a lot slower and things get all boggled up and left out and then later I think, well, THAT wasn't what I meant to say! You are usually very clear-you're just
DEEP:-) and I don't want to misunderstand.
I think YOU could understand a Buddhist- you are very educated, well-read, and open-minded. But I think a lot of people couldn't. They would compare his culture and beliefs against their own (Western)using their own as the benchmark. (thank you!). While many of the world's religions have archetypes in common, I am frequently surprised talking to people at how limited they are in their ability to see beyond the surface differences to the similarities.

I didn't mean to imply that the ethics of christianity were particularly "ethical" (ha- figure THAT one out), merely that they are at the heart of a great deal of our culture- whether we are raised religious or not. I am trying to not define CHristian religion very literally here, I guess or attach to it any moral superiority. It's the mythology that shapes Western thought in many ways. It also bears a great similarity to other mythologies- because we all have those same basic archetypes.
You write of creating your own mythology. ANd you do it in a sort of joking manner, but I think you and I and all the rest of us aren't really joking. I think we really want things to have meaning and we do want something that we can accept and act on "as if" .

And I'm not sure too many people have the time or the resources or the interest in exploring and playing with the concepts. So they wind up with nothing.
It makes me feel better that you said you have to work on what you're saying several times around. I don't think I ever arrive.
