I hope Kaplan doesn't shake things up too much. I don't usually have TV on in the morning, but when I do I switch back and forth between Imus and C-Span. The other cable news channels are unwatchable. Putting aside the hosts, their guest commentators are better than the competition. No one is a better analyst than Craig Crawford, and Pat Buchanan and Peggy Noonan are refreshing. Imus isn't happy.

IN KAPLAN, IMUS GETS NEW BOSS FROM HELL

By JOHN MAINELLI

February 18, 2004 -- What goes around came around yesterday when Don Imus found out that his new boss at MSNBC is the much-despised - by him - veteran news exec Rick Kaplan.

"He's a lying, back-stabbing, snail-gut-sucking weasel, and he nearly ruined CNN," Imus railed on his WFAN wake-up show that MSNBC simulcasts - adding that the feeling is mutual.

"There's only one other person who hates me more [and] that would be Howard Stern," Imus said. "If they named him to head MSNBC, I'd be better off.

Imus has bashed Kaplan ever since Imus' infamous 1996 appearance at a Washington dinner during which he embarrassed President and Mrs. Clinton.

"When we wrote that speech, we ran everything by Rick and he signed off on everything," Imus claimed. "When everybody was outraged, then Rick sold me out."

Nonetheless, Imus held out the possibility of forgiveness.
