It is possible that Obama really OK'd AF2 and the fighter jets to go over the Statue of Liberty today....

He may have not approved this particular flight. But...I strongly suspect he approved the "plan" to develop a series of 'glamour shots' of AF-1 and a escort fighter jet or two. Why not? The campaign must remain in full swing.

If Obama had no involvement at all, then he should begin searching for a WH military advisor to replace big thinker(Louis Caldera) who fell on his sword yesterday saying he made the decision and is responsible.

If this issue gets "any legs", the WH will tell us that the decision to not inform the public was based upon not informing any AQ types in NYC who might the capability to hit the jet since it was only operating at about 1500 feet AGL. Not that many years ago, TWA 800 fell(?) out of the sky even though operating at a much higher altitude over Long Island.

Interestingly, the FAA has been very quiet about air traffic delays to operations at JFK and LGA.
