some Chinese vessels are old, but will still be suitable for coastline defense.

They really are a "Chinese fire drill" right now. China is going to become the number two power in the world. If their demographics don't stop them. Their problem is that within 30 years 25% of their population will be over 65.

It's normal and natural for them to have a good Navy. Although no major Euro continental power, such as France and Germany, have ever dominated the seas. It went from England to us.

China's real problem for the next 30 years is trying to bring the country up to the level of the coast. They depend on us to help them do it. Their days of confrontation with Tiawan are over. They need a good Navy to police their area and protect their trade. They will use it to dominate undersea mineral and oil development in their area. They and India are going to dominate African trade.

We could double our ships for the same money if we weren't tied up to our domestic shipyards. The Contractors and the Unions have the Navy by the throat.
