Some of the theories about the tobacco stocks being good buys
1) the settlement by the govnement will insulate them from any further lawsuits. Thus future profits are secured.
2) Most of the tobacco settlement money is coming from insurance.
3) They are making money like crazy in Asia and Europe.
4) They are fairly diversified, so even if tobacco gets killed, they won't.
5) They are part of those index funds, which means they are in the spiral up regardless of what happens.

So overall thats why fund managers like them.
