HI John: My ISP guru is at this time working on "wireless" local
loop..and he is GOOD..now WLL..will be a while coming to the masses
but it IS coming..and it WILL turn a lot of internet plays and
telcos on their heads when it hits.
WLL..even beats ISDN...2.57 gigibit transfer rate...it's like
being pluged right into the ISP server his guess is about $40
a month..but you can be hooked up from the time you turn your computer on, all you need is a network card to plug his box into..it all
happens on RF..and is like a full time hook up..does an end run
around the local telcos..and with internet telaphone..this thing
is the next fronter.."digital wireless local loop" will go were
we have not gone before..and remember I told you so.
You will even have the speed to be a proxy server..your page
can be on your own computer..you will almost be like an ISP..
in fact you could with a modem bank be an ISP..just one hop
from the T1 line...you could not handle a lot of users at a time
as you would not have that kind of bandwidth but you could do
just like the old BBS sysops and have say two lines coming in
and handel e-mail etc giving people a program that lets them
up and download / doing the mail offline..with a little effort
you could have a push program..that they configure such as
PCN..and give them enough time for it to run, in short shape
it like an old BBS..and just catch the part time users..who
don't want on the net to surf..just news and e-mail..
Yep WLL could revitalize the old BBS any one could become a sysop
one hop from the internet backbone..hmmm that may not happen,
but WLL will. What are AOLs and GTE and AT&Ts plans when it
gets here, or are they even considering it ..other than to try
to block it..
