'What I see happening is more and more companies farming out their operations to smaller inland cities like Boise, SLC, Provo, maybe Reno or even MT when they are not shipping those operations overseas. However, I still think a lot of the innovation and research will be done in the coastal cities where the major universities and research facities are located.

What do you think?'

Agree with your thinking. Little will change regarding where the innovators will be. I think progressive lower cost areas of the country with good transportation networks and quality of life should benefit greatly from this trend.. Austin and Raleigh have already been the highest growing larger MSA's for decades along with Vegas. I also think central FL, Charlotte and Atlanta will do quite well.. Smaller metro areas like Knoxville, TN and Greenville/Spartanburg area of S Carolina also fit that mold even if much of the rest of those states remain bible belt regressive thinking
