Now what happens if you sold short shares you didn't borrow?

Even if this were done it wouldn't make your so-called "strategy" for the hedge funds any more intelligent, or less unprofitable.

And I left out the implied step (f) your little strategy, "struggle like mad to cover", which, as you have gleefully pointed out innumerable times, ain't so easy. So our hypothetical hedge fund ends up takes it in the shorts (so to speak) coming and going. Not recommended!
