Well, I might very well be driving a hybrid when I buy a new car next year. The point is that using much more efficient technologies might save enough oil to eliminate or greatly diminish our dependence on ME oil. Fuel cells run on hydrogen, so YES they would help eliminate our dependence on ME oil. I have no doubt that if our country was serious about weaning ourselves off ME oil we could do it. We won the Cold War and put a man on the moon. Why couldn't we takle the ME oil problem? Because, there are some very wealthy and powerful interests who don't want to see the ME oil "problem" solved because ME oil is a very lucrative trade.
