and your response You're out by at least a factor of 2 here.

Actually he was about right, perhaps a little low... OEM prices for NT4 server were around $600, and Win2K will be a little more costly. There was some talk early on that the "base" server price would go down but that has not happened. Also, most of the "enterprise class" machines will use Advanced Server, not the base product, which is geared to small file and print machines. Advanced Server will sell to OEMs for closer to $2,000... there is no server product at the prices you suggest.
