Did folks follow AMTX to TXN? OR are PAIR, WSTL worth a chance, being beaten down the past year? AWRE, ALA?
Paul --
You'll probably get as many answers as there are investors. I certainly have made TXN my ADSL play even though it's far from pure. On the others, the questions I'd ask are:
1) what percentage of company does ADSL represent? (ALA, ADI, TXN, SMAWY)
2) what percentage of company is impacted negatively if ADSL replaces other technologies? (PAIR)
3) what does the company have that can't be purchased through one of the major players? (WSTL, AWRE)
Then, too, there's the buyout question. Lots of speculation re: WSTL and AWRE. However, I try to make it a point not to invest based on buyout rumors, so my choice is simple. There's also Orckit. And as you know I won't look at them until they license which so far they haven't.
Two up and coming ADSL players are still private: Efficient Networks and Diamond Lane. EN has a contract with DSC and DL's doing ADSL for NEC. Both have enormous potential.
There are several ADSL companies I've not researched, primarily because they initially backed CAP --- AGCommunications and Netspeed. They may be good, but I just don't know them.
In lieu of a pure play, I'm backing TXN, SSPIF, and ANIC --- two for DSPs and one for down and dirty telecommunications provisioning. My list of networkers is getting bigger, too. :)
Hope this helps.
