Hi Ray, is the TAD the only source of audible ringing in the home, or is there another extension that could be used to validate a test? On the surface it sounds like the TAD is the culprit, because the ringing signal (ringing generator, which is undulating d.c. on the order of between 90 and 108 vdc from the central office) is adequately being sensed by the machine, and the number of rings that are required before it 'trips' seems to be working okay. This "is" a POTS line we're talking about, right? Sometimes the circuitry that governs the volume and the on-off status of the audible ringer will go south in phones that depend on such circuitry, as opposed to those that use a more direct approach to line sensing [which are increasingly scarce]. This is what it sounds like to me, in any event. Try using another phone if you haven't already and let us know how it works. FAC
