I bought Robin an Audi 5000S when they were hot back in 1987. About 3 months later Dan Rather did a hit piece on the Audi state that the car would suddenly leap pot of gear and race forward from a dead stop.

Over night the value on the car dropped by $7,500. The bad thing was that Dan Rather's story was fully untrue. The people who he interviewed later told Audi that their foot had slipped off the break and onto the gas pedal causing the accidents.

Dan failed to report that or even follow up one the story once he was approached by Audi with this information.

Still, I lost $7,500 when I traded the car a year later.
