Thanks for the well-reasoned response. In theory, what you say makes sense, but both you and I have seen far too much corner office malfeasance over the past 12 months to realize that "corporate ethics" has become almost an oxymoron.

"Personal greed" seems to be driving too many companies today, rather than "corporate growth," as exemplified by the growth of CEO salaries and perks.

All too often, the cost-cutting moves benefit not the company, but rather the fat cats at the top, whose bonuses and stock options are tied to the price of the stock at a particular date and short-term boosts in earnings.

Some companies still practice community involvement and reward worker loyalty, but many, if not most, do not. The only thing that matters is the bottom line.
