True.

Reduction in tensions and sane foreign policy is preferrable to a policy of perpetual global combat.

Even better would be a global long-term effort to detect and avoid lesser and greater asteroid events. We're still unable to detect them until it's too late.

It would be ironic if we were hit with a species-terminating event while we're fighting among ourselves.
