Help needed, please.
I am running a PII 266, that i recently installed win98SE replacing win95. The technician nuked the C drive (I have a C, D, and E hard drives) prior to installing win98 Everything was fine until i tried to re-connect my Okidata 4W printer. When i first re-connected the printer, i was told some files were missing. (I had the Okidata printer files on the E drive).
Ok, no biggie, i downloaded a driver for the Okidata 4W and tried to use it set up the printer. I deleted the files that i could find from the printer already on the puter. I did NOT uninstall, unfortunately.
Well, the computer got real weird, didn't want to boot, only booted in safe mode, told me i already had a Okidata 4w and to remove it before adding the printer.
I do not have the printer connected yet, but i do get the following two messages:
on boot up i get: (in white text in a black box, like an old DOS command):
<<Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run windows or a windows application.
The windows registry or system.ini file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exists.
If you deleted this file on purpose, try uninstalling the associated application using its uninstall or set up program
If you still want to use the new application associated with this device file, try re-installing that application to replace the missing file e:\okipage\VHSD95.386
press a key to continue>>
ok, pressing a key to continue does boot the machine to the regular start, but gets me to the following message in a box
<<Cannot find the file Monitor.exe (or one of its components) Make sure the path and filename are correct and taht all required libraries are available>> then there is an OK button, which i hit and get the following box:
<<Could not load or run "Monitor.exe" specified in the win.ini file. make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the win.ini file.
OK >>
I hit OK and get to the regular monitor window and everything seems to work fine (except printer).

sorry to be so long winded, but i am trying to give the whole pic.
so i put in vhsd95.386 into googles, and get a nice description micro-solutions.com
in the win.ini file, there are several references to okipage which i will post in the next post. larry
