EMC Provides Enterprise Storage for SAPPHIRE '98 EMC Symmetrix Enterprise Storage Supports Demonstrations For Thousands Attending Premier IT Event LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 14, 1998--EMC Corporation's industry leading Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems and software are helping to showcase the latest enterprise application solutions to thousands of people at SAPPHIRE(r) '98, the annual SAP North American user conference and one of the most prestigious IT events in the world. SAP America, Inc., has selected EMC Enterprise Storage as a key storage platform for SAP demonstrations taking place at its signature event at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Two EMC Symmetrix 3700 Enterprise Storage systems are simultaneously connected to 40 Windows NT and UNIX servers from a variety of vendors. The 16,000 attendees at the event will be able to access the systems for demonstrations of new, more powerful solutions to help their businesses improve performance and profitability. An EMC Data Manager (EDM) backup solution connected to the Symmetrix systems is providing online backup of the systems. The EMC Enterprise Storage systems will be housed in a showcase ''data center'' located in the main exhibit hall.
''EMC Enterprise Storage is enabling SAP users to access the most flexible and powerful enterprise applications available,'' said John P. Ash III, IT manager, distributed systems for SAP America and SAPPHIRE '98 technical manager. ''The solutions showcased at SAPPHIRE '98 in conjunction with our partners such as EMC are the solutions that corporations will deploy for their mission-critical applications in the coming months and years.''
In addition to providing storage support for attendees, EMC Enterprise Storage solutions for SAP environments will also be on display at the EMC exhibit (booth 1959). EMC and SAP have been working closely for more than a year to integrate their two technologies. The two companies have worked together on a number of technical projects, including the development of a one terabyte SAP(tm) R/3(tm) implementation. In February 1998, EMC announced the opening of a technical center at SAP AG [NYSE:SAP - news] headquarters in Germany. The two companies also announced the signing of a maintenance and technical support agreement to provide joint customers with the highest levels of service and support.
Jim Pearson, EMC's Vice President of Enterprise Alliances, said, ''We are showcasing capabilities that are critical to IS managers deploying SAP applications. EMC Enterprise Storage provides users of SAP solutions with the ability to properly manage and protect their information while giving them the flexibility to select the processor platform and database that meets their requirements. EMC Enterprise Storage is the foundation for a successful SAP solution.''
