Since they are in favor of Gay marriage, they are silent on the Mayor.

That may part of it, but there are chatterers of all stripes. I've only seen one article, one you posted, discussing the issue. Where are the rest of the chatterers?

Also, there are some technical differences between the Mayor and the Judge. The roles are different, for one. A mayor's loyalty is to his constituents and the judge's loyalty is to the law. The judge has an upchain; the mayor does not. Another difference is that the law the judge defied was much more settled where the mayor's approach is new.

The judge didn't get pounced until he defied court orders. The mayor hasn't reached that threshold yet. If he crosses it, then he's in the same boat as the judge. Until then, I, frankly, don't know what to think. I know next to nothing about state law. That's why I've been interested in finding some discussion of the subject.
