Best Buy offers to pay Web sites that send customers its way

Wednesday, July 11, 2001

Best Buy Co. Inc. is offering to pay commissions to Web sites that direct buyers to its Internet subsidiary, BestBuy.com.

Web-site operators that sign up as affiliates and link to BestBuy.com will be paid when they route a visitor who makes a purchase, the company said in a prepared
statement distributed by Business Wire.

There is no fee for affiliating. Commissions will be handled through Reporting.net, a password-protected site operated by Be Free Inc. Be Free, based in Marlborough,
Mass., helps Web retailers track, manage and analyze business.

Best Buy, Eden Prairie, sells personal computers, appliances, consumer electronics and entertainment software. The company owns more than 1,800 stores in the United
States, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. BestBuy.com sells consumer electronics, computers and accessories, and posts product descriptions.

Best Buy shares fell $1.47 to $65.38.
